We have been indoctrinated to accept artificial 20th century management as the way that things are done

All existing business methods, all business school teachings, all new business and management solutions, and all management books produced today propagate artificial 20th century management. Here at the Business Change Forum we have hundreds of articles that explain the fatal flaws and fundamental unsolvable problems with obsolete and outdated 20th century management. We explain the use of Result-performance Management (R-pM) for natural 21st Century management.

Even with all their flaws, 20th century business organization and management structures are generally-accepted. People do not want to think and analyze to solve problems; they want a ready-made proscribed solution based on familiar methods. But since 20th century management is a very costly and flawed way to manage, all we do is propagate bad management and unsolvable problems.

Unsolvable problems are unsolvable, when our mind is closed to solutions

The biggest obstacle to solving business management problems is not finding the solution, but opening our minds so that we can see the solution. Even if the solution is right in front of us and should be obvious, we are blinded by a mind that is closed to the solution. The biggest arguments against an innovative new solution are that things are not done that way, it is not what others do, and it requires change. If it was what is always done, what others do, or required no change, it could not be a new solution.

The approach to problems prevents new solutions, not based on existing methods

Innovative new solutions require a change in thinking and approach. But, we are used to the academic approach, where improvements are incremental based on what has been done before or the “published record”. Management book publishers require authors to substantiate their thinking as “correct” by footnoting the source in another publication. The approach stifles innovation and prevents completely new methods. Unsolvable business management problems remain unsolvable, because they cannot be solved by incremental improvements to existing methods.

20th century management problems cannot be solved by 20th century management

The Business Change Forum has discussed hundreds of 20th century management problems. New methods are developed and new books are written every day purporting to offer solutions. But, the 20th century management problems remain unsolved, because all new methods and books are based on old methods and books.

20th century management structures and methods must be removed, and replaced by all new 21st Century Management

We must open our minds to new solutions

The biggest obstacle to R-pM is that people’s minds are closed to innovative new solutions. R-pM is thought of in the context of existing methods, and rejected because it does not fit in. Many 20th century management problems cannot be touched because they are “sacred cows” that are embedded as the way things are done. People react in horror if you organize financial management, administration, IT, etc properly as a results produced by the business, or if you replace methods of strategic planning, human resource management, business processes, accounting, cost accounting, performance management, etc with proper management of capital utilized by the business.

R-pM is natural business organization and management

On the other side of the coin, once people open their minds to R-pM, the means to organize and manage the business are obvious. They then wonder what we have been doing for the past 100 years, without seeing the obvious way to organize and manage the business, and to eliminate the hundreds of unsolvable management problems.

R-pM is natural business organization and management that we use every day in our personal business organization. We do not lay organization and management structures over our personal business. We utilize performance solutions in our own time, capabilities, and knowledge; plus other solutions in our money, house, car, and belongings. We utilize our performance solutions to produce results such as arrived at destination, purchased product or service, enjoyed night out, etc. The value we perceive in the result must exceed the cost of performance in order for us to be happy with the result. Each of us uses R-pM every day, so R-pM is actually very familiar to us.

We must open our minds to utilize our natural method we use for our personal business for our business organization and management, and to be blinded no longer by our learning and experience with artificial 20th century management.

Open your mind to 21st Century Management

When you read about R-pM, do not think in terms of your existing business or try to fit R-pM into 20th century management. Think of R-pM as all new 21st Century Management that replaces 20th century management. Relate the way you manage your personal business and solve personal business management problems to your business management and problem-solving. Continue to read and learn, even if your first reaction is “this is garbage”, because it does not fit into your fixed business context.

You can only reap the advantages of 21st Century Management, if you open your mind to a completely new, but natural, approach to organize and manage the actual business, remove all 20th century management structures laid over the business, and eliminate all of the unsolvable 20th century management problems.
