Many enterprises implement business change by copying what others are doing. The objective is to implement business change for its own sake. They usually rely on consultants to implement change for them. Usually these enterprises don’t understand the benefits that they should receiving from the change and haven’t implemented the capabilities to properly utilize their new solutions. They may be satisfied operating the solutions without knowing that they can be gaining much more. What can we do so that those that employ the same business methods of others can gain success?
If enterprises are going copy what enterprises are doing they can’t just copy the obvious parts, but they also must gain the underlying understanding, management, and support that make the obvious parts work. But, enterprises should never “copy” what another enterprise is doing.
Implement Business Process Management that provides advantage
Enterprises can implement and utilize the same methods as another enterprise. But there are no shortcuts. The enterprise must do the full implementation with the same management and support as the first enterprise. The advantage to the first enterprise is that they are the “leader” and have an edge that they can maintain with good management. The advantage to “follower” enterprise is to benefit from experience gained the implementation and use of the new method. But the follower will never gain this advantage or use the method properly, if they are copying.
