Logo: Feedburner Manage the Benefits of Capital Development Projects with R-pM

Submitted by bcfc on March 29th, 2007

There are many methods for capital development project management, but they all have difficulty planning and developing specific project benefits, gathering development costs for specific capital to be utilized in operations, and relating the costs of specific performance solutions developed to the actual benefits provided in operation to measure the return on investment. We have discussed these difficulties in many “Capital Development Plans and Projects” posts in the Business Change Forum.

21st Century Management manages investments to gain a planned result value return

Rule No. 7 of The 10 rules of 21st Century Management with R-pM: Manage investments to gain a planned return. The enterprise cannot manage the benefits of development unless the specific results to be produced by the developed capital are defined and managed. The enterprise cannot manage costs against the benefit to know the specific return on investment, unless the specific performance solutions being developed are defined and managed.

Result-performance Management (R-pM) is the conventional method to organize the business for 21st Century Management. R-pM uses unique bottom-up Result-performance Development to develop both the costs and benefits of development, so that they can be tracked into operation to provide the planned and managed return on investment.

R-pM provides a business structure for capital development project results produced and performance solutions utilized for effective project management and to capture of costs of new solutions developed as project results.

Do not attempt any capital development project without studying and understanding the benefits of R-pM as summarized in the article “R-pM for Capital Development Project Management” in 21st Century Management Magazine.

Submitted by bcfc on March 28th, 2007

Management consultants can provide significantly improved services by helping enterprise clients to organize and manage the business with R-pM. This enables the management consultant to work in partnership with the enterprise for measured result value-added success that is beneficial to both parties.

Corporations hire consultants for Change Management, rather than organizing to change naturally

Business change is very expensive, when the business is not organized or managed. Business change is not change to the business, but change to overlaid structures to align them closer to the actual business.

Normally, business change projects are supported by management consultants hired to implement change. The enterprise found many problems in absorbing change and utilizing implemented solutions, creating resistance to change. Resistance to change was blamed on enterprise staff rather than the overlaid structures used. The management consultants introduced a service “Change Management” to address the problems of resistance to change. These services addressed the symptoms, but never addressed the real problems that prevent the management of change.

Logo: Feedburner What are Structures overlaid on the Business?

Submitted by bcfc on March 16th, 2007

Some have contacted us about conventional 20th century structures overlaid on the business. Some people define “overlaid” literally and “business” loosely.

R-pM is one business structure that organizes and manages the business and changes with business change

The generally-accepted definition of the enterprise business is “the activity of providing goods and services”. Therefore, organize and manage the business means organize and manage “the activity of providing goods and services”. This is the objective of R-pM. R-pM manages business activity as performance and business goods and services as results.

Enterprises today use many structures to organize and manage. There is an organization structure to show reporting relationships and other structures for strategies and plans. There are likely business processes to manage the business. There may be job or functional descriptions, career paths, salary scales, for human resource management. [more...].

Submitted by bcfc on March 13th, 2007

Many posts at the Business Change Forum discuss the problems with 20th century accounting and the need for professional records management for 21st Century Management. Rule No. 4 of the Ten Rules for 21 Century Management is: Keep records on the full cycle of cost and value in operations and development.

Today’s enterprise faces many obstacles to professional record capital management provided by R-pM. Financial accounting is often seen as enterprise records management, but maintains a professional view of what it will record, and acts as an administrative function, rather than professional records management. Financial accounting does not record the business, but accounts against a chart of accounts overlaid on the business.

This subject is discussed in an article in the 21st Century Management Magazine, Broaden Financial Accounting to provide Professional Records Management. The article shows how R-pM provides a unique opportunity for the accounting profession to expand to professional records management. Professional facility records management maintains financial and non-financial facility records of the actual business, and provides information capital solutions from records, where needed to produce results at all levels of business management.

This article is important for the future of professional business, financial, cost, or management accountants and anyone in the accounting, auditing, and records management profession. If you are in the industry, read the article carefully and forward it your fellow professionals, for their views.

Logo: Feedburner Increase the Worth of Human Capital, don’t stifle Human Resources

Submitted by bcfc on March 10th, 2007

Human resource development and management does not develop human capital precisely to produce valuable results and increase in worth

There is a lot of talk and writing about human capital, intellectual capital, knowledge management, and other means to improve the capabilities, productivity, and output of human capital. Despite the talk and writing, companies have never been able to integrate business capability requirements, human capital capability development, qualified human capability deployment, human performance and cost, the value created by human performance, the value-added by human capabilities, and the worth of specific human capital.

Many companies proclaim that their people are their most important asset. But most of the companies manage human resources as employees, rather than managing human capital. Many common human resource structures actually stifle human capital with contrived organizations and positions, position or job descriptions, salary scales, and career plans.

Result-performance Management (R-PM) develops needed capabilities to produce result value and increase human capital worth

Result-performance Management (R-pM) manages human capital to deploy human personnel solutions to be ready to be managed to produce results, human capability solutions where required by the business to produce a specific result, and human knowledge solutions to develop human capabilities and to utilize specific solutions to produce specific results. Logo: Feedburner Enterprise Capital Development with an Unorganized Business causes Unsolveable Problems

Submitted by bcfc on March 7th, 2007

Enterprises must organize the business to develop properly

Result-performance Management (R-pM) organizes business outputs in results and the capital utilized in performance into one integrated business structure for 21st century management. The business itself provides one structure to organize and manage both operations and capital development. Enterprises develop capital in two dimensions through new or improved performance solutions used to produce new or improved results. R-pM plans and manages both the new solutions being developed and implemented and the improved results being produced. Investment costs are in the solution development; investment benefits are in the value added to results. All new and prior solutions are integrated and aligned with the results produced and managed as one business whole.

Conventional capital development overlays new organization and management structures on the business

Conventional 20th century enterprises do not organize and manage the results they produce or the performance solutions utilized to produce results. This makes it very difficult for the enterprise to plan and manage development. Enterprises go through many development projects to develop organization structures, strategic planning structures, business processes, information systems and application architectures, charts of accounts, performance management structures, etc. The objective of development is to implement the structure in one dimension to improve performance.
